CHAPTER 18

Another Dark Day, An Even Darker Night

Boris was pleased with events so far. He'd already wiped out two towns of stinking humans, let loose two angry vampires in the world and killed that pathetic traitor Igor. All things considered; it had been a good couple of days.

Tonight's target was another small trading town called Sunflower Street. It was in central Dragonia, in the middle of nowhere on a crossroads between two big trading routes. There was a relatively small population here, only a couple of inns, a chapel and the usual stores. Which suited Boris, he didn't want to draw too much attention just yet.

Plenty of time for grand attacks on the big towns and cities he thought to himself.

As before, he arrived at nightfall with Bart and Arnie, his trusted companions. This secret storage space was in a small copse of trees behind the chapel. He wanted to take out the clerics first if he could in these attacks, as they posed the only real threat to his forces. These backwater towns rarely had any powerful clerics living in them. The one he encountered last night was pathetic.

Boris stood a good distance from the space containing tonight's General and opened the portal.

As expected, the furious, starving vampire immediately charged Boris but was controlled well before he was in any danger. Next, he released the zombies for tonight's proceedings. He compelled the vampire to guide the zombies into the town and kill everyone. The abomination itself went on ahead, looking for victims to satisfy its thirst.

Boris went to the chapel to deal with the cleric, the vampires couldn't set foot on Holy ground, Boris had no such problem though. As he blasted the doors in with his lightning bolt wand, he started to hear the first screams from the town, and he smiled.

The zombies had begun smashing their way through the town and had claimed many victims, but as usual, it was the starving, enraged vampire that was causing the most devastation.

It had already killed a family of four in the first home that it came across, but it still wanted more. The next two homes it found were empty, and now the creature was getting frustrated; it wanted more victims.

Boris searched the chapel thoroughly but couldn't find the cleric. "Damn! Where is he?" he said in frustration. As he left the chapel, he turned in anger and sent a Fireball spell into the small building, destroying it thoroughly.

At that moment the vampire burst into another home and found five people there, all crowded around a bed containing another person. The undead creature was pleased, this will do, it thought to itself.

The home the undead General had invaded this night was not owned by cowering wretches, however. It was owned by an old woman named Gwen who was suffering from a
